¿Qué es el Jueves Santo?

Camino a la Cruz

Maundy Thursday (also known as Holy Thursday) takes place on the Thursday before Easter Sunday. Maundy Thursday commemorates the institution of the Eucharist or Lord’s Supper, a Christian sacrament that involves consecrating (or making holy) bread and wine in remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins.

The name “Maundy” is derived from the Latin word mandatum que significa mandamiento. On the first Maundy Thursday as Jesus met with His disciples, Jesus said: “And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)

As described in the gospel accounts in the New Testament, the events of Maundy Thursday include the gathering of Jesus and His disciples in the upper room in Jerusalem; Jesus washing His disciples’ feet; the Last Supper before Jesus’ arrest; the time Jesus spent in the Garden of Gethsemane praying to His father; and Judas’ betrayal of Jesus. These are the events we will read about and reflect on at our Camino a la Cruz evento este Jueves Santo, 28 de marzo.
